I use this with my mac for time machine backups and it works perfectly.
- Unfortunately some of the 1 star reviews were trueby G M

I'm giving this drive 1 star because both that i ordered were DOA. When I manage to take them in to BestBuy I'll try exchanging hopefully and if they give me troubles too I will just give up lol. Now, if they had worked. I love the form factor, nice and small, short cable but I that's what you want with a little drive like this not something that's going to get all tangled every time you put it in or out of your pocket, purse, backpack, etc. I hope that I eventually get one to work.
- Ignore The Other Reviews - Read This for MacBookby Bruce

Okay, first of all ... I hate reviews that only give you half the story. Read this review if you want the scoop on this drive: Beware, you have to be a little bit computer savvy if you want to use this drive. It is not plug and play - if you expect to plug it into your MacBook and simply follow the bouncing ball, then you will be disappointed/frustrated. Also, it doesn't come with a set of detailed instructions telling you how to back up your apple computer files. It only comes formatted for anything other than apple. So, what you have to do is google the following: 1. How to format seagate harddrive to macbook; then, 2. How to backup macbook files to seagate drive. Then, follow the bouncing ball when you find answers to these searches. You will know if you are successfully backing up your files if it takes about 17 - 20 minutes. Lastly, when you are done backing up the files, you have to properly eject the seagate drive, otherwise you will get an error message (if you just pull the wire out of your macbook). The procedure is a little involved, but ... hey, you are getting a 2TB drive for 80 bucks.

Not sure about these negative reviews but this has worked perfectly for me for many months. I'm using it with a Windows 10 laptop and no issues whatsoever.

This is the worst drive I have ever used. I bought it 4 months ago and the drive has fully stop working. At first I heard some clicking noises when connecting it and it wouldn't recognize my files. Now I heard nothing the light is solid blue but I still don't see my files. I used this as a backup drive to create space on my main drive and know I have lost all my files...stop selling this piece of junk!!!!
- never buying this one againby evi

i am on my second hard drive now in a year and it is making weird noises already! I already lost all my files with one and I am scared I will with this one again! Buying a different brand now would definitely not recommend seagate

I wrote a very harsh and upset review about this hard drive yesterday as I was experiencing issues with it and dealing with a lot of frustration. However, once I realized that what I needed to do to get this hard drive to work for my MacBook wasn't actually clearly outlined in the instructions, it was seamless from there. For those who, like me, are not technologically inclined and want to use this hard drive for your Mac ONLY (not both Mac and PC), all you need to do is go to Disk Utility and reformat the drive for Mac (i.e. you hit "Erase"). It took mere seconds for mine to complete this process, and once complete, I was prompted by Time Machine to back up my Mac – which is the sole reason I'd purchased this drive. I woke up this morning to see that my computer has been fully backed up on the external hard drive via Time Machine, so my negative 5 review is now a full, +5 stars. The reason I've deducted one star is because I think the instructions should have included a small note for users who want to use this drive for Mac only. I understand that this is a PC/Mac hard drive that is supposed to be used seamlessly between the two (and there Seagate sells a separate "for Mac" drive), but when I followed the instructions to download Paragon NTFS for Mac – thinking I would need to do this for the drive to work on my Mac – it ended up being a nightmare for me and I wasted two hours trying to get my Mac to even read the hard drive. So, for those who do want to use this for both your PC and your Mac, good luck to you because I wasn't able to figure it out (and fortunately won't need to), and Best Buy will NOT let you return the hard drive if opened and you'll have to contact Seagate directly.
- DO NOT BUY IF YOU OWN A MACby You Bet I'm Demanding a Full Refund
from Toronto, ON on December 19, 2017
I just wasted 2 hours of my life trying to get this garbage piece of technology to even be read by my MacBook—nothing. I wanted to use it for Time Machine, but I got an error message. Downloaded NTFS for Mac per the instructions, and I couldn't even install the application until I restarted my computer. But that didn't help either. If this was the place to use swear words, you bet I would. I wish I could give this hard drive NEGATIVE stars – in large part because Seagate, Partition AND Best Buy do not have helpful customer service available or any sort of troubleshooting tips. @Best Buy – considering I purchased this today and it has done the opposite of what it's supposed to do, I expect a full refund.

I am very, very disappointed with this external drive. I wait for 3 weeks to come in mail order it was arrive yesterday, as soon as I recived I try on my desktop didn't recognize it, I am taking to Best buy tomorrow. Let see what they say my all other brands external hard drives work perfectly with no need to even install any software, just connect the drive and work fine.price is good but service and product are not as I expected very disappointed.
- piece of crapby Gabriel
from Brampton on December 13, 2017
First time buying online from best buy, got it on cyber monday. This thing was working fine, stored mp4 files on it to watch on my ps4. Until a week later, i was using it, the shows werent playing, so i reset my ps4, and then this crap starts making a beeping noise, is no longer a recognized device on my ps4, tried to plug it to my laptop and then the light on the harddrive stopped blinking, not recognized on my laptop, and then eventually stopped revving up whenever plugged in. waste of money, dont ever buy this crap or anything online from best buy.
